Quotable: Sinéad O’Connor on sexual abuse in the Catholic church

I remember all the flak she took when she first spoke out–almost the only famous person to do so–against sexual abuse in the church. People called her crazy. (Including some so-called progressives.) Oh, she’s a famous singer. Oh, they’re all eccentric. Oh, pay no attention. Oh, this. Oh, that. It got so bad that at one point, she had to take out an ad pleading for the feces-flinging to stop.

Oh, where are they now? She doesn’t sound so crazy NOW, does she?

(Thanks to JJ.)

Her music is so deep, so intrinsic to what is healthy for human society–that I am inclined to believe she has important views with respect to this very Irish crisis.
The fakes that instinctively jump on her for taking on these powerful people–well, we all see them for what they are…
There are many weak people of all political stripes out there. And then there are the people that have a well developed, healthy ethics that make a mark and lead the way. Sinead, is one of the leaders here, and her views on this issue are compelling.
